#FIVEONFRIDAY

#FIVEONFRIDAY

Five things to consider doing this sunny week!

Boojum

If I’m honest, working in Siopaella is pretty remarkable. I get to work with an amazing team, receive wonderful visits and messages from our super-star costumers, handle beautiful pieces from some of my favourite designers and run around Dublin getting the bosses lunch.

Okay so that last one may not sound as glamorous as the rest BUT when getting the nomnoms for the boss lady/man means a trip to Boojum Dublin - I am only delira. This is due completely to Boojum’s delicious food and their uber friendly, funny and welcoming staff. I guarantee you that every visit to Boojum will provide you with an impressive food-baby and a smile on your face.

Dublin City Soul Festival

Merrion Square Park is one of my favourite locations around Dublin. Not only is it a beautiful park hidden away in the city, but there is always something fun and exciting happening in the Square. This weekend sees Dublin City Soul Festival taking over Merrion Square with their two-day music and feel-good festival. The entire event was created to support the Music Youth Foundation. The children’s charity aims to provide young people who are at risk, with an opportunity to turn things around through the charity’s music education programmes. I shall be heading to the festival this Sunday and cannot wait to experience some amazing music while also helping out with donations at the door. See you there?! :)

Boyhood – IFI

A film I have been counting down the days until its official release is Richard Linklater’s Boyhood. The film follows the character Mason’s transition from childhood to young adulthood. It may sound like a simple plot but the entire film was shot over 12 years, bringing a previously untapped authenticity to the entire film and its characters. Boyhood is currently showing in Temple Bar’s own the Irish Film Institute.

Tabitha Magazine

The motive behind Tabitha Magazine and their frequently updated site, lovetabii.com, is to provide a platform for up and coming Irish talent. Tabitha Magazine is the perfect stepping stone for various designers and artists who have something to say or show. The independently run magazine currently has 5 issues and is working on Issue 6 as I type! Find yourself a free Sunday, put on the kettle and relax with a browse through their charming site.

The Art of the Song : David Bowie

I’m always intrigued by artists covering and interpreting other artists work. It’s not about stealing or copying a specific artist’s creations but instead it’s about one artist reworking something already established and creating something unique and completely their own. The elaborate work of David Bowie will be subject to such re-creation this Saturday 26th July in The National Concert Hall. Mr Bowie’s music will be in very capable hands thanks to acts like Lisa Hannigan, Duke Special and Heathers who, on the night, will be creating their own Bowie inspired moments.

#FIVEONFRIDAY

Here are five of our favourite obsessions this week which had us all ‘oohing’ and ‘aahhing’ in Siopaella HQ

Body and Soul 2014

Body & Soul Music and Arts Festival launches this weekend in Ballinlough Castle, Co. Meath. The three day festival which runs from the 20-22nd June is a delightful combination of music, visual arts, dancing underneath the stars and of course covering yourself in glitter. With musical performances by international acts such as Goldfrapp, Of Montreal and Tom Vek, alongside Irish’s acts, Young Wonder and September Girls, this weekend just screams endless summer nights!

Honest to Goodness Cafe

Only a stone’s throw away from our Crow Street Shop, Honest to Goodness Café is our first choice when we are looking for delicious and guilt free YUMMY food.  With a variety of fresh salads, sandwiches and smoothies, it makes eating healthy ooooh so easy and ooooh so tasty.

Frock Advisor

Siopaella was thrilled to host a Frock Advisor event this past Thursday (blog post to follow). The charming and fashionable, Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney, extended the opportunity for Siopaella and some of its customers to gain insight into the launch of their newest fashion forward app; Frockadvisor. Working with various other boutiques and fashion lovers around the country, Frockadvisor allows for a greater interaction between fashion suppliers and fashion admirers.

Merrion Square

Although, we all do LOVE the hustle and fast paced environment the city provides during the summer months, sometimes our Siopaella staff crave nothing more than some open space and fresh air (we do actually like the outdoors – crazy I know). Thanks to the beautiful location of Merrion Square, picnic blankets and lazy Sundays are within reach. Check out the friendly open-air art gallery held every Sunday in the Square from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Antique Quarter – Francis Street

Whether they come in the form of clothing, crafts or home ware, finding hidden treasures is a common past-time for all of us in Siopaella.  The Antique Quarter on Francis Street is an ideal place to rediscover old gems and admire revived furniture. Deemed as Dublin’s answer to Portobello Road, London, the Antique Quarter provides hours of endless roaming and discovering.
